Hey New and old members

We are now starting our second season of tennis and this season is going to be busy.

Here are some updates mentioned at the meeting held on the 27th

First what will you need for practice

A racquet, if this is your first time out and you don’t own a racquet. Don’t go buy one. Many of the members on the team have extra racquets, once you have determined whether you are going to play this season or not then go out and invest in one.

Waivers and registration papers need to be in by feb 2nd if you haven’t already done so. IF you played last season you do not need a new one, if you played a different club sport you will only need the registration paper also $25 to Jonas or Anna for membership.

How the ladder will be determined

there will be a block schedule posted here shortly. You will be able to find your name and the name of the person you are playing. A list will be emailed shortly with everyone’s email as well as cell number. It will be up to you to contact that person and set up a date to play. Those who tend to play more matches will have a higher chance of gaining a spot on the ladder. Our tennis team isn’t based on seniority, its based on participation. These ladder matches will go on until march 25th.

Tentative schedule

This year is going to be a lot more busy than last. We already have almost every weekend minus spring break booked. That means team dedication is a must. Last year we entertained the idea of having game members and members that just came out to hit. Unfortunately what we realized is that some wanted lessons and we don’t have coaches and we also realized we have limited court time and space. So this season is only for match play. If you are looking just to hit around you are free to look at the roster and call up someone to hit, there is also an intramural team which is another way to meet people to just play with.

Most of our matches will be played at home.

Practice schedules

Practice at the moment is tentative

But it will probably fall on Mon and Thurs from 5-7. That said you will be required to keep playing throughout the week on your own time.

Positions on the team

The team has a couple positions that will be discussed further at our next meeting. We will need Team Captains, a treasurer, President and VP, communications, safety and a new position website manager. I created the website last season but I am not very tech savvy and can only do limited things such as update pages and up load calendars if any of you know how to add pictures to the website email me back it.

As of right now the positions that are filled are

Treasurer Anna C.

Communications Maddie

That said these positions will all be up for bid and you can either vote the original people back in or vote in new people. This will be covered more at the next meeting so if you have any questions sit tight for now.

This is AU club tennis’s first official year as a club sport at American. Our first season is over and it was a great one! This spring we will hold our second season hope to see all of you again at try outs.
